To retrieve the cord blood unit, just notify Family Cord Blood Services. Your physician and Family Cord Blood Services will then schedule the transfer date and work out any details for the transfer.

There is no fee for retrieving the cord blood unit for transplant purposes.

- What happens if someone in my family needs my baby’s cord blood?
Family Cord Blood Services understands that all families deserve every available resource in order to keep their family healthy. For this reason, we established the Immediate Need Transplant Program to offer our services free of charge to expectant parents who have a family member in immediate need of a transplant. Currently, most insurance companies do not pay for cord blood banking. However, Family Cord Blood Services established the Immediate Need Transplant Program offering our services free of charge to expectant parents that have a family member in immediate need of a transplant.

- Can I donate my child's cord blood to Family Cord Blood Services?
No, Family Cord Blood Services does not accept donations. However, Family Cord Blood Services provides a Public Donation OptionSM for families who, after 10 years of private storage, wish to offer their child's cord blood stem cells to a public donation registry. - Does Family Cord Blood Services accept transfers of cord blood currently stored with other cord blood banking companies?
Yes, Family Cord Blood Services will accept cord blood units currently stored with other cord blood banks. The owner of the cord blood unit is responsible for any fees associated with the transfer and will be billed the then-current annual storage fee. Contact a cord blood educator at 800-490-CORD (2673) for more information.
